With Deadpool & Wolverine just around the corner, it's really beginning to look a lot like Marvel Christmas again! Alongside the previously-announced return by Marvel Studios to the hallowed halls of Hall H in this year's iteration of the San Diego Comic-Con (not just for one but TWO DAYS), it looks like us MCU-heads are getting another bombshell of a present ahead of what's sure to be a game-changing week for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As reported in The Hollywood Reporter, the Russo Brothers (Joe and Anthony) are supposedly in talks to helm not just Avengers 5, a project that previously went by the name The Kang Dynasty until Jonathan Majors' issues caught up with him and the whole Kang thing went up in smoke, but also Avengers 6 which expected to be the Secret Wars adaptation for the venerable Cinematic Universe.

The report does add that talks between Marvel Studios and the Russos are in the early stages, but this does add a level of excitement back to the projects, seeing as we may be getting back the helmers of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, arguably two of history's greatest comic-book movie extravaganzas. This also puts back a level of confidence in the MCU, which has admittedly been struggling to right itself back to its former glory ever since Phases 1 to 3 (also known as the Infinity Saga) ended back in 2019.

Avengers 5 previously had Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton at the helm until Marvel Studios put a hard stop on the project in light of Majors' conviction last December 2023. One name that was being rumored to have been offered the gig was Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, but that was immediately kiboshed.

Currently, the release dates for Avengers 5 and Avengers 6: Secret Wars is set for is set for May 1, 2026 and May 7, 2027, respectively.
