Instant Daddy review - A Heartwarming Tale of Unlikely Parenthood

(Photos : Viva Films) From sleepless nights to messy diaper changes, parenthood is undoubtedly a demanding journey. Many people are equipped with the skills needed to succeed immediately, whereas some will want to do anything but that with their lives. However, what happens when someone who’s all about that single life is suddenly thrust into taking care of a life beyond his own?

"Instant Daddy" is a heartwarming drama comedy that tells the story of Val, a carefree and commitment-phobic man whose life takes an unexpected turn when he becomes the sole guardian of a baby girl left to him by an ex-lover. Directed by Crisanto Aquino, the film delves into the challenges and joys of parenthood, showcasing the transformative power of love and family bonds.

Val, played by charismatic actor Jerald Napoles, is a charming bachelor cab driver solely focused on his job and personal pleasures. However, everything changes when an ex-lover, Julie (portrayed by Danita Paner), unexpectedly leaves a baby in the backseat of his taxi cab. Overwhelmed and clueless about parenting, Val initially struggles to cope with his new responsibilities. The film beautifully portrays Val's journey from bewilderment to embracing his role as a father. With the help of his friends, likable characters portrayed by MC Muah and Nikko Natividad, and a neighbor, played by the delightful Ryza Cenon, Val embarks on a rollercoaster ride of diaper changes, late-night feedings, and endless playdates. At its core, "Instant Daddy" explores the power of love and sacrifice. As Val bonds with his daughter, he realizes that being a father is more than just fulfilling basic needs. The film depicts the transformative effect that unconditional love can have on a person, inspiring Val to let go of his self-centered nature and prioritize his daughter's well-being.

"Instant Daddy" strikes a perfect balance between humor and emotional depth. The film cleverly uses comedic elements to lighten the heavy theme of parenthood, creating moments of laughter even during the most challenging situations. The humorous interactions between Val and his daughter (a star-making turn from Althea Ruedas) provide many enjoyable and lighthearted moments throughout the film. However, "Instant Daddy" also tugs at heartstrings, offering poignant scenes depicting Val's emotional bond with his daughter. Jerald Napoles delivers a captivating performance as Val, skillfully transitioning from a carefree bachelor to a devoted father. His portrayal realistically conveys the challenges of parenthood while showcasing his character's growth and emotional transformation. Napoles' comedic timing adds an endearing element to the film, making Val relatable and likable.

The chemistry among the cast members enhances the authenticity of the story. Ryza Cenon, portraying Val's supportive and understanding friend, brings her signature charm to the film. Her natural chemistry with Napoles adds depth to their characters' friendship. MC Muah, as another loyal friend, provides comic relief with his quirky personality and humorous antics. "Instant Daddy" is a touching drama comedy that explores the transformative power of parenthood. Through its strong performances, heartfelt moments, and effective use of humor, the film successfully captures the challenges and joys of unexpected fatherhood. As such, the film provides an engaging and heartwarming cinematic experience that will leave viewers with a renewed appreciation for the bonds of family and the transformative power of love.
